Adam Shipley joined the City of Maricopa in 2018 as the Economic Development Management Analyst. While pursuing his Bachelor’s in Urban Planning, Adam began his professional career by targeting areas prime for conservation with City of Phoenix Water Services Department. After being promoted to Economic Development Coordinator, Adam is now the project liaison for the City’s biggest commercial projects, small entrepreneurial ventures, and everything business in between. Adam is an environmental sustainability advocate, and in his spare time enjoys traveling, art, cooking, and spoiling his Chiweenie. Laura Bloch has worked in the environmental field for more than 20 years on projects and programs with all levels of government, academia, non-profits, and industry. She is currently the Sustainability Adviser for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 9 where she works on both regional and national policies and initiatives to enhance sustainability and resiliency. She led U.S. EPA, Region 9 in the design and implementation of its ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System (EMS), and champions visionary initiatives that minimize environmental impacts of internal operations and programs. For example, she helped develop the national Sustainable Grants Policy based on a successful policy she championed in Region 9. She has also developed and implemented several training programs to enhance sustainability nationally and with other agencies. Laura has been recognized through several national awards including the James W. Craig Pollution Prevention Leadership Award. Dr. Bloch received her Doctorate degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. […]

Josephine Justin is currently a senior at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and is majoring in Political Science and Communication Studies. She is currently interning with the US Environmental Protection Agency and is working on projects with their partner, the EPIC-Network. After graduation, she hopes to do her masters in Urban Planning with a concentration in environmental planning. At UNC Charlotte, she is a member of the advanced Model United Nations team and Charlotte Green Initiative. Lori DiPrete Brown, a co-chair of the UniverCity Alliance at UW-Madison, is a public health leader and educator who advances health, equity, and quality of life worldwide. She employs rights-based approaches and the UN sustainable development framework in system strengthening efforts across sectors, both in the US and around the world. Her teaching in the School of Human Ecology and the School of Medicine and Public Health is informed by 15 years of global health practice in 21 countries, and has spanned public health, human rights, civil society, community studies, quality improvement and innovation. Her scholarship includes over 40 articles and reports and a textbook entitled Foundations in Global health Practice (Wiley, 2018). She is a graduate of Yale College, the Harvard Chan School of Public Health, and the Harvard Divinity School. […]
