Chiang Mai Rajabhat University (CMRU) is a university in Chiang Mai under the Thai Ministry of Education. CMRU was founded in 1924 as an agricultural teacher training college and eventually evolved into its current university status in 2004. On behalf of CMRU, the Faculty of Science and Technology joined EPIC-N in 2021.

Using the EPIC Model, CMRU and the government of Chiang Mai City collaborate to develop active learning strategies that go beyond the traditional classroom. The partnership will entail close cooperation between the local government and the university as the latter turns the city into their students’ classroom. Called the City Room (City + Classroom) project, students from the Environmental Science Department and the Faculty of Science and Technology have the opportunities to assist the Chiang Mai Municipality in monitoring the city’s rectangular moat surrounding its main center.

The Chiang Mai local government and CMRU hope to expand the City Room projects to neighboring towns and cities, helping them achieve their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UPSI is the reception of the UNEP-GAN Seed Grant.
