As a sprawling metro region, the City of Phoenix is a desert city with warm temperatures year-round. As an alternative to lush, green lawns, the City prioritizes the use of xeriscaping as a sustainable alternative to typical residential landscaping. With an emphasis on irrigation reduction, xeriscaping includes functional use of plants to reduce water use and intensive maintenance. The City of Phoenix Water Services Department is partnering with landscape architecture students to research and design a series of residential xeriscape plans that are accessible and easy to adopt for City residents.
