The Town of Gilbert is a fast-growing community in the East Valley of the Phoenix Metro Area. With a population of over 270,000 residents who are eager to have a positive impact on their community, the Public Works Department Environmental Services Division is interested in exploring new, innovative ways to divert waste from landfills while creating value from existing and future waste streams. Environmental Services is also interested in exploring the feasibility of providing in-house materials recovery and landfilling services versus continuing to contract with private companies. Undergraduate Chemical Engineering capstone students will collaborate with the Town of Gilbert Environmental Services to design and recommend opportunities for innovative waste diversion and value creation processes.
