The Sustainable Climate Change Initiative is based on extant curriculum within the Department of Environmental Studies and Climate Change, particularly “Climate Change Adaptation”, “Groundwater and Surface Water Modeling”, and “Environment and People Courses.” The program firmly encourages internal (University of Liberia) and external (Liberian universities) collaboration with other colleges. James McClain and a core group of University of Liberia College of Science, Technology, Environment, and Climate Change officials will administer the program. The focus of the program is collaboration with local governments on climate change and health issues as well as to support the research and instruction of the University of Liberia through collaboration with cities, municipalities, and the central government on action-oriented research related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and quality education on the freedom of creative thought and implementation.
In Least Developed Countries (LDCs), the community-university partnership is essential because community members will have evidence-based information to discuss health and environmental issues.
The mission of the Sustainable Climate Change Initiative is to engage local governments and communities in action-oriented research that supports the SDGs and contributes to the University of Liberia’s achievement of sustainable human development.
