This Democracy in Action project is a California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) initiative program that the Geography 450 Parks and Protected Areas (GEOG 450) class participated in during the spring 2020 semester. The class collaborated with the City of San Marcos (the City) Department of Parks and Recreation (P&R) to initiate a survey of the public demographics and needs. This survey was aimed at bettering the park space and determining the needs of the public.

The Parks and Recreation Department is an invaluable part of the City as they provide public space, management of lands, activities, and classes for the public. The City requested that the GEOG 450 class collaborate with them as consultants to create, implement, and analyze a survey to gain more understanding of the changing wants and needs of the public.
