The workshop was organised by the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS) Universiti Sains Malaysia and Penang Green Council (PGC) on 9th January 2022. The workshop was fully conducted by the students under existing courses (Public Sector Economics and Tourism Economics). The students have worked together with the Consumer Association of Penang (CAP) to demonstrate and train the community to practice composting at home using organic waste generated from their homes. The community has been given one transparent box per group to practice home composting techniques. The material used and organic waste such as leftover fruits and vegetables were provided for them to use in compost. Besides that, the workshop also exposed them on the urban farming concepts using home composting fertilizer. The workshop has given an experienced to them and encouraged them in practicing home composting that can lead to organic waste reduction as well as improved their waste management at home. The level of knowledge and awareness on waste management among the community has increased especially in terms of composting knowledge. The students also have gained experiences in terms of communication and leadership skills that can brighten their future careers.
