On Wednesday, June 22nd, EPIC-N leaders convened in Pretoria, South Africa for the 2022 SRI Conference. The purpose of this visit was to train EPIC Africa-Network cities in southern Africa on the EPIC model as well as co-explore effective ways for them to plan, implement, advance/ upscale as well as report and evaluate their EPIC projects.
The overall goals and outcomes sought from the conference are:
- Strategic outreach and relationship building with existing African organizations and networks
- Support current programs in operation after finding out where they are in their adoption of the EPIC Model
- Increase the number of artifacts collected documenting EPIC Model initiatives in Africa
- Build consistent onboarding tools for new programs and effective support resources localized to the different regions of EPIC-Africa.
EPIC-N leaders had great reviews of this site visit. Sean O’Donoghue, Co-Leader of the EPIC-Africa Regional Network, said this about the conference:
“The SRI conference provided us with a platform, not just to connect with like-minded community-focused researchers, but also to connect in-person with EPIC-N coordinators from Africa and Asia. After a long two years of Covid, friendships were established through these in-person engagements. Having two days to provide refresher training during the event was the cherry on top.”
