Call for Nominations for the EPIC-N Board of Directors

Nomination deadline: Wednesday, August 10 at 11:59 PM CT

The Educational Partnerships for Innovation in Communities – Network (EPIC-N) is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit association with members all over the world. Our organization is governed by an engaged board of directors that works on behalf of the organization and represents EPIC-N members and stakeholders. The board members also ensure member programs maintain a strong voice in deciding EPIC-N priorities while recruiting international experts to strengthen the organization.

EPIC-N is currently seeking nominations for committed members to take a leadership role and serve on the Board of Directors.

Members of our Board of Directors commit to:
  • Serving for a three-year term
  • Meeting several times a year, both virtually and in-person
    • Board members attend all board meetings for the year with exceptions allowed for pre-identified causes or emergencies. Last fiscal year, board meetings lasted on average 1.5 hours and occurred in August, October, December, February, April, and June (There may be an additional board retreat sometime this fiscal year).
    • Before and during the board meetings, directors are expected to fully participate. EPIC-N uses a consent agenda framework that requires drafting and/or review prior to, as well as during, meetings. Learn more about consent agendas here.
  • Attending annual in-person conferences (when safe to do so).
    • Historically board members who request financial support to attend the annual EPIC-Network Conference have received it.
  • Participating in board subcommittees or working groups as available.
  • Championing EPIC-N to external individuals and organizations.
  • Treating all participants in the EPIC-Network programs with respect and dignity.

Both self-nominations and nominations of your colleagues are enthusiastically welcomed by the nomination deadline of Wednesday, August 10 at 11:59 PM CT.

To nominate yourself or someone else involved in an EPIC Model program, please send the following to info@epicn.org by the deadline above:

    • Indication of whether you communicated with the nominee about this submission
    • Indication if it is okay for EPIC-N staff to contact the nominee directly

Upon receipt of a nomination, the nominee will be contacted to verify their interest in serving on the board and to answer any questions.

If you have questions about the nominating process or duties/time commitment of a board member please contact Marshall Curry, Program Manager, by email at mcurry@epicn.org. We thank all nominators in advance.

Members can participate in the selection process

By the end of August, EPIC-N will be introducing a slate of FY23 Board of Directors for a vote of approval by qualifying programs.

Currently, EPIC-N’s bylaws give the EPIC-N Board of Directors the power to elect board members to the organization without approval from its programs. With the process proposed below, EPIC-N is honoring this formality, but adding EPIC members in the process. The board wants the process to represent your best interests and has chosen the following process to do so:

  1. EPIC-N’s Executive Committee (the “Committee”) assists EPIC-N Board of Directors (the “Board”) on creating a slate of nominees for consideration and potential appointment to the Board. This year the Committee started discussing nominations in May.
  2. The Committee presents the board a slate of nominees picked for their skills, expertise, and demographics matched to EPIC-N’s goals over the next three fiscal years. The board agreed to maintain that at least 51% of the directors on the board must directly represent/report to a recognized EPIC program to ensure that EPIC-N’s board decisions reflect that of the organization’s key constituency.
  3. The Board then holds a formal vote to elect, or reject, the proposed slate
  4. The Committee then sends the proposed slate to the qualifying incumbent member programs for an “Approval” vote.
  5. The Board then notifies the EPIC-N community of the results.

If you qualify as a member you are able to participate in our FY23 approval vote for our incoming board of directors. The deadline to qualify is fast approaching. To qualify as a program, we ask that you have completed ALL of the following by August 15, 2023 (the day before the next EPIC-N Board of Directors meeting).

  • Started a partnership with a local government, or approved community partner at any point (before scoping to after the project is finished).
  • Your program information is up to date in EPIC-N database (Use list below and contact below to verify)
  • Your program has a program profile with some information from academic year 2021-22 on EPIC-N’s “Whos-in-the-network” website page.

Below is a list of the programs we understand as qualifying. We want to make sure we honor and include as many of you within this important vote as possible. If you have questions about your qualification please contact Marshall Curry at mcurry@epicn.org.
